Pedestrian Crash Results in Fatality in Mount Vernon

Officers responded to the area of Richmond Highway and Frye Road around 5:44 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1 for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Investigation determined a 52-year-old man driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz ES500 was traveling southbound on Richmond Highway. The driver made a turn onto westbound Frye Road.

The pedestrian, David D. Baines, 57, of Alexandria, was crossing Frye Road near the crosswalk and was struck by the car. Baines was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver remained on scene and Crash Reconstruction detectives assumed the investigation. On Friday, Dec. 2 just before 1 a.m., Baines died from his injuries. According to police, neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors to the crash. The investigation continues.
