“The year has not been without its challenges, but so many wonderful things happened for us this year, too, as we celebrated 75 years of excellence. The awards and honors are far too many to mention here, but the entire Mount Vernon High School community can be proud of the accomplishments of our students and our staff. On Friday, June 19, 403 seniors graduated, eager for the next phase of their lives. The class took with it innumerable honors, awards, and college scholarships. Our students at all grade levels have excelled in academic and athletic competitions. They have represented you and our school very well. Our teachers and staff have been recognized for their dedication and outstanding service to our students, our school, and the county, including the FCPS First Year Teacher of the Year Award to MVHS drama teacher, Lee Daugherty and Berkeley McHugh was a finalist for FCPS Teacher of the Year.

“I would like to send a special thank you and congratulations to the following teachers and staff members who are retiring from FCPS on June 30, 2015: Bob Maxey (director of Student Activities), Willie Medley (MCROTC), Bob L'Hommedieu (science), Kerry Miller (special education), Joyce Ramos (media center), Donna Sinclair (art). They have positively impacted the lives of many students for many years and for that we are grateful. Each of them will be missed.”
